It was originally discovered by NASA for the purpose of plant growth in space and further experimented on wound healing first on lab rats then on humans. Through these tests, biologists discovered that cells that are exposed to this type of light grow 150%-200% faster. The light increases energy within the cells to enourage the body to heal at a faster pace. Red light therapy is now used by many professionals such as Mayo Clinic, National Institutes of Health, US Military, and many more worldwide to aid in healing with powerful results including chronic and acute pain from muscles, joints, tissue and nerve damage. Red light Therapy is a safe all natural process that encourages your body to naturally produce enzymes, elastin fibers, and collagen that support the skin’s structure. Red Light is FDA approved and dermatologist recommended delivering energy to stimulate a response from the body to heal itself.
How does it work?
LED infrared light penetrates the skin and then is absorbed by the mitochondria--the energy or powerhouse of the cell. Because of this increase in metabolism of the collective cells, regeneration and healing is stimulated in muscle, bone, skin and subcutaneous tissue. Accelerating the recovery of injured tissue relieves pain more quickly reducing swelling and inflammation.
Inflammation is your body’s natural and helpful immune response to tissue damage. Over time, chronic inflammation wears out your immune system, leading to chronic diseases and other health issues, including cancer, asthma, autoimmune diseases, allergies, irritable bowel syndrome, arthritis, osteoporosis, and even appearing older than your years. Red light activated ATP stimulates white blood cells that work to repair damaged tissues, and increase collagen production that builds elasticity in the skin and can aid in wound healing. ATP also activates endorphins that provide soothing relief from chronic and acute pain. Because RED light therapy triggers the body’s own defenses, it actually treats the source of pain and doesn’t just mask the symptoms. RED light therapy provides relief from pain and discomfort without the side effects of pharmaceutical drugs or surgery.
Once the red light has increased the cell's energy production, each cell within the treated area begins producing new cells to replace the cells of the injured tissue. Once ATP production increases, so does a cell's production of fibroblasts. These cells provide the building blocks of the body's connective tissue, producing collagen and other soft tissues and making increased fibroblast creation particularly helpful in treating sports injuries involving torn tendons or ligaments.
This process results in the vascular walls of the skin's small blood vessels being strengthened, thus improving oxygenation and detoxification of the skin. Hydration is increased and the ability of the skin to retain moisture improves. Increased cellular activity, improved natural repair and the creation of healthy skin conditions leads to cell regeneration.
Treatment Time
You can begin with as little as 15 minutes per day. Because the goal is to strengthen the underlying skin itself, you should expect to give at least eight weeks to start building up the new layer of the skin.
Initial Results (First 4 week, at least 4 times per week)
Initially you’ll notice clearer, brighter and tighter feeling skin. Your skin will have a much smoother feeling to it, pigmentation of the skin will start to even out, and any blemishes or acne will start to diminish.
Long Term Results (4-12 weeks, at least 3 times per week)
Over time with improved oxygenation and detoxification of the skin is achieved as the vascular walls of the skin’s small blood vessels are strengthened, followed by improved natural repair and creation of healthy skin. This will help restore and firm up tired looking skin, decrease fine lines, wrinkles, and stretch marks, diminish freckles, age spots, eliminate acne, even out pigmentation, minimize the size of facial pores, improve the appearance of sun-weathered skin, and stimulate collagen synthesis. Improving the skin’s underlying supportive structure and making you look and feel years younger. The more often and longer you use red light, the better results you will get. Maintain your results using the red light 1-2 times a week. Discontinuing the red light therapy typically results in the gradual loss of results over the course of time, as with normal skin aging.
For Maximum Results it is recommended to:
-
Remove make-up and moisturizers.
-
Exfoliate for better light penetration.
-
Use Red Light Prep Spray before a session.
-
Ue Red Light Post Creme after a session.
-
Use Red Light Targeting Serum anywhere you'd like to see greater results.
Contraindications
Patients undergoing steroid therapy or currently using anti-inflammatory medication should not undergo light therapy. Inflammation is the body's natural response to injury, helping injured cells stave off infection and begin the process of healing, though unchecked inflammation becomes detrimental to the patient. Anti-inflammatory medications cancel out the accelerated cell activity that the light triggers, negating any therapeutic benefits of the therapy. Light therapy treatments should not be used for eye injuries, on any open wound or injury, over a pregnant woman's uterus, and over any skin growths that may be cancerous. Those who suffer from epilepsy or increased light sensitivity, or are on medication that causes increased light sensitivity should talk to their physician first.
How long will the treatment last?
Results depend on the length of treatment and the original conditions being treated. Skin rejuvenation is a dynamic process. If maintenance treatments are discontinued, a gradual loss of results will occur over time, as with normal skin aging.
Healing - It is very beneficial in treating problems close to the surface such as wounds, cuts, scars, trigger and acupuncture points and is particularly effective in treating infections. Infrared light (904nm) penetrates to a depth of about 30-40mm which makes it more effective for bones, joints, deep muscle, etc.
